Mountain Gorilla

Mountain gorillas are the largest of the primates. Large silverback males reach standing heights of six feet, seven inches and can weigh as much as five hundred pounds. Mountain gorillas live in the mountainous rain forests of Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania. As big as they are, mountain gorillas are peaceful vegetarians. Gorillas live in groups of up to thirty and spend most of their time eating and playing. Because of poaching and habitat destruction, mountain gorillas are an endangered species on the brink of extinction. Only through the concerted efforts of dedicated conservationists are these wonderful primates hanging on.
