Moose
The
North American moose is the largest member of the Cervidae family,
which also includes elk and deer. Powerfully built, bulls can
stand six feet, three inches at the shoulder and weigh over 1,300
pounds. One of the most notable characteristics of this large
fellow is his large antlers. Interestingly, moose do not always
shed their antlers annually as most deer do. Moose are generally
solitary animals and only congregate during mating season. During
this time of year, males engage in violent rutting to win the right to
mate. Moose mainly feed on aquatic plants, which is why they can be
found living near bogs and marshlands.
