Leopard
One of the most beautiful animals to roam the earth, the leopard is a
powerfully built hunter. The total length of head and body ranges from
thirty-eight to sixty inches. Leopards can weigh as much as one hundred
pounds. Solitary by nature, the leopard is a master hunter. Hunting at
night, the leopard usually ambushes his prey then carries the prey up a
tree to eat it. This helps ensure other animals won't come along and
take his kill. The leopard is smart and adaptable; it can live in
wooded savanna, forest and semi-desert areas. Gestation for females
last 90 to 105 days and she will bear two to three cubs.
Because of their beautiful coats, leopards have been horribly overhunted. This marvelous animal faces a tenuous future.
