Impala

The impala is a graceful antelope standing about thirty-nine inches at the shoulder and weighing about 175 pounds. Impalas live in herds of fifteen to twenty-five females and young, with a dominant adult male. Young males that are not part of a herd form their own herds. The impala moves fast and can leap thirty feet in a single bound while running. It lives in Africa and spends its time eating acacia trees, bushes, fruits and short grasses. Females give birth to one to two young after a gestation period of 171 days.
