Hyena

Hyenas are powerfully built and possess incredible jaw strength. Measuring six feet from head to tail and weighing as much as two hundred pounds, the hyena is a notorious scavenger. It is one of the few animals that can eat rancid meat without getting sick. Although well known for its scavenging abilities, the hyena is an adept hunter, capable of taking down much larger prey than itself. Generally, hyenas live alone or in pairs.

Only during the mating season do hyenas come together in large numbers. Hyenas live in sub-Saharan Africa. Gestation lasts 110 days and the female bears one or two young.
