Chimpanzee

This highly intelligent ape is considered by many to be the closest living relative to man. Male chimpanzees stand as tall as four feet and weigh up to 120 pounds. Chimpanzees are omnivorous, but their diets generally consist of fruit. They live both in trees and in terrestrial environments. One of the most intelligent animals, chimpanzees have developed a large repertoire of vocal sounds and gestures for communication. They live in groups of up to forty, where mothers and children have close relationships. Chimpanzees are far more aggressive then their close relative the gorilla and, like many primates, are threatened by habitat destruction.
